Chanel’s 2015 cruise collection was brought to Dubai and shown to a select few on an exclusive island. The crisp white, lounge-style runway was the perfect backdrop to the equally beautiful, middle eastern inspired clothes. A new favorite, graceful, gold lame was mixed with old favorites like Chanel tweed. What stood out for me was the amazing fabric manipulation and intricate, mis-matched mosaic patterns. Chanel’s collections since fall 2013 Haute Couture have been lackluster at best, so this one was a welcomed surprise. Everyone thinks that just because its Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel it is creative brilliance, which is certainly not always true. Sometimes it is just ugly, but Karl is still a fashion genius and a revolutionary; he just has occasional slip ups. This was a display of how strong a designer he is. He managed to keep his representation of middle eastern dressing from being costumey or stereotypical. This collection was trendy, yet timeless; wearable, yet still art…very Sex and the City 2.
