Last Collection:

October 20th marked the passing of Oscar de la Renta, one of greatest fashion icons this world has ever seen. He died peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Oscar had been fighting a reoccurring battle with cancer and eventually succumbed at the age of 82. He lead a life overflowing with love, happiness, and success. Oscar de la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic and journeyed to Europe to work for some of the best couture houses. In 1965 de la Renta found his rightful place in New York and launched his eponymous label. Millions fell in love with his feminine silhouettes and fairy tail gowns, which he continued to design throughout his memorable career. He has dressed and befriended countless notable women and is the creator of many historic fashion moments. From the throne, to the white house, to the red carpet, all of his clients adored him, not only for his clothes, but also for his charm. Oscar’s designs are as equally vibrant, elegant, and bold as he was. Often taking inspiration from his native Dominican Republic, de la Renta loved to explore color and patten. He melded this culture flawlessly with classic refinement. Whether it was 50 years ago or 5 weeks ago, Oscar created chic ensembles that epitomize sophistication and poise. They are enchanting and have the power to make you fantasize about a world much more beautiful than your own. This, is the true essence of couture and Oscar had it in spades. Oscar de la Renta was the king of American fashion and no one could ever design like he did. He revolutionized this industry, and fashion will never be the same without him. Oscar left behind an enormous body of work that displays his passion for making women feel beautiful and confident. Before his death, Oscar de la Renta had been waiting to retire. He made plans for former Nina Ricci creative director, Peter Copping, to take over his iconic brand. Copping will surely make him proud and carry on his legacy. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. de la Renta, but I have always loved and admired his creativity, kindness, and charisma. Today we say goodbye to a rare talent and an even rarer human being. Oscar de la Renta, you will remain in our hearts always.

  1. Oscar De La Renta was a favorite of mine. He exuded class and sophistication. His designs were like seeds that grew gardens, and metamorphasized into bold worlds of color and richness that took us to another time and place. I will wear my Oscar dress this weekend with much more appreciation than I had before. He will be missed as one of the most talented, charismatic, charming, and passionate designers we have known
