Prada has done it yet again. For Fall, the famed Italian label has dreamt up another leather confection that has taken the fashion world by storm. This is fantastic news for Prada, who is relying on the new bag to increase its poor leather goods sales- which account for most of the brand’s revenue. The Inside handbag was first spotted in the Fall/Winter 2015 runway show, in which 21 of the 40 models who sashayed down the catwalk carried it. Ever since, Prada’s marketing team has meticulously planned each step of the bag’s release. In order to optimize demand, they chose to push advertising- often taking out three or more pages in every major fashion publication. Prada has also dictated the slightest details of how the Inside bag is presented to consumers. Sales associates from every store were taught precisely how they should sell the bag and what each of its displays should look like. The Inside bag was created with the same inspiration as the label’s Fall collection: an overt sweetness and femininity that almost verges on fake. It served as the perfect item to complete Prada’s sea of pastels and baby-doll silhouettes. The clever design has all the makings of a true “It-Bag.” A sleek and demure exterior that allows for the bag to be a versatile piece in every woman’s wardrobe. With an endless array of colors, sizes, and skins readily available, their is a perfect option to suit every desire. However, it wouldn’t be a true Prada creation without some aspect of whimsy. Once the Inside bag is unzipped, a miniature pouch in a contrasting color, resembling a man’s dopp kit, is revealed. This ingenious way of adding additional compartments for everyday essentials is just the type of innovative thinking that made us fall head-over-fahionable-heels for Prada in the first place. We will be seeing a lot more of the Inside bag in months to come. This must have accessory is going to explode.
