Calvin Klein Collection and Marc Jacobs Finales During New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016

This past Monday, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) opened up discussion about the future of New York Fashion Week- announcing that it will begin work with Boston Consulting group to survey industry leaders on how to improve the event’s inner workings. Chairwoman, Diane Von Furstenberg is pushing for the seasonal shows to be geared more towards consumers and previewed closer to retail deliveries, instead of the usual six months before. This huge shift has both positive and negative repercussions. For example, if collections are readily available during their appropriate climates, sales will potentially spike, but designers may also focus too heavily on making their shows appealing for the masses and end up with weak repetitions on the same note. So what lies ahead for NYFW? Will average Joes be able to preview lines from industry heavy weights like Ralph Lauren and Proenza Schouler or will they continue to be left outside the venues? Only time will tell…
